NON-SPOILERS:
ACOTAR is set in a world where the human realm is split from the Fae realm by a wall. Feyre is a human who hunts to feed her family, but one day she accidentally shoots and kills a Fae—dressed as a wolf. And to repay her mistake, she has to give up her life to the Fae.
This book is filled with everything you need! The story line, the world development, the characters and the themes of love. I loved every single moment of reading this book, and it was just absolutely stunning.
Seriously, Sarah J Maas has never disappointed me with any of her work. I’ve read everything (Excluding The Assassin's Blade because I want to read that after the whole ToG series is finished) and I’ve loved all of it from the very beginning. So starting a new series of hers was just like opening a Christmas present, even though xmas is gone but you catch my drift. My birthday is near though, so it could amount to that :D
And oh my gosh all of the characters! I loved Feyre, although I don’t know who I like best between Feyre and Celaena. But I’m drifting more towards Celaena because she’s just…Celaena. But nevertheless, I still enjoyed her character.
Tamlin and Rhysand! Oh my god!!! I know nearly everyone who’s read this book is like “what ship is sailing here?” but for me, I haven’t really made up my mind yet. I’m tilting a lot towards Tamlin and Feyre but I have an open mind for Rhysand. A really big open mind!
Seriously, this book was amazing and it actually left me in tears near the end because of what happened! I finished this book at 3AM and my face was totally bloated! Seriously! It was so stunning, beautiful and amazing!
But that is all for the non-spoilers because I actually want to discuss this book in more depth and talk about what happens in the book. So if you haven’t read this book, you need to go and sit down, grab a cup of coffee and open this book before I force you myself!

SPOILERS: *this review is more like a rambling so haha*
Okay. First of all, let’s talk about the names. Because come on, I already have the hardest time trying to pronounce Aelin, and I think Ms. Maas just loves making up names that are nearly impossible to pronounce.
First, Feyre. It’s pronounced Fay-ruh, and for me, it sounds so weird. Like the first time I saw it, I read it as “Fae”. And I know there’s a pronunciation guide at the back but come on IT’S AT THE BACK. You don’t see things at the back of the book until you get to the back of the book which is basically when you’ve finished the book that you get to the back of the book. You know what I mean??
And then there’s Rhysand. You know how your mind first sees something and it doesn’t change even though you know it’s wrong? Yeah, that happened with Rhysand. Every time I saw Rhysand my mind would just tell me “Rhysand” and no matter what I do, I still call him Rhysand instead of “Rheesand”. Lucien called him “Rhys” once in the book which was when I was like “wait what?”
I really liked Feyre, but not in the same way I like Celaena. With Celaena, it was like “oh my god I effing love, adore and worship you” because she was so strong, and so badass. But with Feyre, it was more like I liked her because of her actions and her feelings. She isn’t particularly the best fighter, not like Celaena is. But she’s still got that foul mouth that joke around a lot with a lot of dry humour and sarcasm, which I really liked.
I really love her courage at times, but in other times, I’m just like “OH MY GOD WHY ARE YOU BEING SO STUPID?” But at those times, I eventually realised that it was the right thing to do, of course, or else things wouldn’t turn out like it did in the story.
With the whole shipping thing, I have to say I’m on the line between Tamlin and Rhysand. After the whole Dorian or Chaol thing in Throne of Glass, I picked Chaol because I liked his character more. But then ROWAN (OMG ROWAN) turned up and literally flipped my head upside down and then made me fall in love with him. So who knows, there might be a third High Lord who will fly me away in A Court of Mist and Fury lol!
But with Tamlin and Rhysand, I liked Tamlin more because of the relationship he had with Feyre. I can tell how much they love each other because of how much she went through to save him and his court. That scene when he held her broken body and cried while stroking her hair literally broke me apart. I cried so hard at that scene.
I love everything that they did together like that sparkly pool of colour thing, and listening to the willow tree sing, I just loved all of it. I found it really romantic and since I’m a romantic myself…y’know.
With Rhysand, I liked him because I don’t know much about him. I’m curious to know why he’s so kind to Feyre, and what was his relationship with Tamlin like before. But at those scenes where he forced Feyre to go to parties and drugged her, that was uncool. I really didn’t like those scenes especially when he touched her and made her sit on his lap and stuff. It was just uncool. But near the end, I did realise his intentions and I did understand why he did it. But it still bothered me a little bit.
But still, I am still curious about him, and also I quite like his personality. Although he acts a bit like a prick, those moments where he told Feyre about the things that he loves being taken away from him made me wonder whether he had a lover before or anyone special to him before who was taken from him. So I am really interested in his relationship with Feyre deepening depending on their character development in book 2, whether it is romantic or not.
Lucien, oh Lucien. I loved Lucien. I really loved his loyalty to Tamlin, and his attitudes to Feyre near the end. That time when she had to decide which lever to choose, it actually broke my heart when he was shouting at her just to choose any, I mean dude, despite all of those months spent at the court, you couldn’t learn to read the basics at least?!?! I could tell how deep the friendship between him and Tamlin, and maybe Feyre, is at the end when he saw Tamlin hold Feyre’s dead body and he cried. And oh man, it was just so sad.
In terms of theories, I don’t really have much due to the fact that the book didn’t end in a cliff-hanger. But I am really interested in how the Feyre acts in the first week she will spend at the Night Court.
It would actually be so freaking cool if she befriends the Night Court, and since she’s already the princess or the High Lady of the Spring Court, she could bring them together along with other courts to defeat Hybern when their armies come. Because I have a feeling that the King of Hybern is going to be so pissed that Amarantha’s dead and he’s going to make that as an excuse to act as a revenge for her, and bring war upon the Faerie realms to try to steal the High Lords’ powers or whatever he wanted to do originally. And I have a feeling this war is going to bring in the humans, either killing them or hunting them enough that they form an allegiance to the Fae.
But yeah, that’s my theory.
